Catan o jogo is made up of several factors that make the game highly replayable. It is played on a hexagonal board where players place their settlements and cities. Each hexagon has a number that changes from game to game.
Catan o jogo Description:
- Persons: 3-4
- Awards: Spiel des Jahres Awards, Juego del Año
- Mechanics: Acting, Career, Trade, Connections, Dexterity, Hand Management, Hexagonal Movement, Negotiation, Variable Setup, Dice Selection, Semi-cooperative, Modular Board
- Player Types: Explorer, Casual, Professional, Social, Tender
- Game Scenarios: Epic Day, Couples Dinner, Game Night, Dessert with In-laws, Visit from Nephews
- The numbers are the sum of the dice rolled on each turn. Depending on the probabilities of a number being more or less common, the number is large and red (more likely to appear), large (high probability), medium, or small.
- Players with a city adjacent to a hexagon with a rolled number receive resources from that hexagon. There are five resources: wood collected from forests, clay produced by hills, wool produced by pastures, grain produced by fields, and ore produced by mountains.
- With these resources, players can build more settlements, roads, upgrade settlements to cities, or buy development cards. Depending on the player’s strategy, they manage their resources to gain victory points.
- It is possible that a player might not have the resource they need. In this case, during their turn, they can trade resources with other players. The cost of the trade depends on what is convenient for each player and may vary throughout the game based on the players’ interests. Another option is having a city on a port, located on the edges of the board where the costs are marked, or, if no other solution exists, to trade four cards of one resource for a card of another resource.
- Each game depends on a combination of the placement of hexagons, settlements, numbers, and the players. The dice have very little effect on the outcome of a game because a game is the sum of each player’s resource management decisions. The player who manages their resources best will win the game.
- Catan is won with victory points, which are generated when players place settlements, cities, have the longest road, the largest army, or when they buy development cards that may give them victory points.
- Although there are many factors that can affect a game, it is a very quick and easy game to explain. There are few mechanics in the game and a limited number of decisions that can be made. The decisions players make usually have an immediate effect and impact the paths to victory not only for the active player but also for all other players.
- Catan is a game where there is a lot of interaction between players. For example, when a player rolls a seven, they move the robber. The robber is a token on the board that blocks the generation of resources on the hexagon where it is placed.
